Oak and steel island

PROJECT: Oak and Steel Island
DESCRIPTION: Opportunity in the form of free materials. Pallets made of white oak are a rare find and a fantastic up-cycling opportunity. After disassembling and cleaning these pieces I was left with dozens of board feet of white oak to play with. Selecting out the nicest and most diverse cuts of these boards, I oriented my favorite arrangement for the counter top and milled down the slats for the shelving. The stringers formed the strong horizontal supports and connected to the steel legs for a solid frame construction. The final build was 6'6" x 30", counter top height at 36", with a 10" overhang and treated with Osmo food-safe Top Oil for a kitchen friendly application.
